The magic of Photoshop!
With newborn photography there are many reasons we use Photoshop, but one of the most important ones I use it for would be composite images.
Lots of my clients love images they see online and ask could I have that image from your website of my baby, most of the time the answer to that question will be YES of course! (as long as baby is happy for us to try it)
One of the most requested is the poses where (normally dad’s) hands are holding them up in the air, They are always amazed when I tell them how certain poses are done and in fact with this pose baby NEVER left the beanbag. It’s all done with a black blanket, good angle and Photoshop, always allowing me to keep baby as safe as possible!
The next one is what we call the froggy pose, this image is 2 or sometimes 3 photographs merged in Photoshop, they are taken while a parent is holding their child at all times. Baby is NEVER left to support themselves in the position that you see in the final image, that would be so dangerous and not something I would ever do!
I also use Photoshop to merge images when working with animals, I always feel that it’s safer to do it this way, yes it might take me more time in processing but for me the fact I know baby is kept safe at all times is worth the extra time spent!
I know we all know how our pets are and I’m not suggesting at all that your pet will harm the baby, but when it’s such an unusual situation I feel it reduces any unintentional mishaps. Some dogs aren’t great with new people or get so excited that they could bump baby, my light flashing could even startle them, so I feel it’s best for all involved to create composite images when working with newborns and animals.
Apart from when using Photoshop to composite images it’s of course used to help me make your images be the best they can. It might be that your newborn has a little rash that you would like removing or your toddler might have a big bruise on their head that you’d rather wasn’t there in the images – for me it’s great for hiding my tired eyes and grey hairs hahaha!
